Monthly Construction Log - October 2008

Date
No work.
Started fit-up of spar carry through assembly. Note that the sheet aluminum is drilled 3/16" whereas the bar stock is drilled to 1/4" (correct size), so drilled 1/4" just through the sheet aluminum. Also had to the same thing to the sheet aluminum at the 3/8" holes, as it was offset very slightly and the pins would not fit through.

Received shipment of backordered fuselage parts.
Continued test assembly of spar carry-though. Sanded down more 3/8" bolts to make pins by chucking in a drill press and hand sanding at max spindle speed. Only needed to take off about 5-10 mils to get them to fit in the undersized holes.
Completed test fit-up of spar carry-through assembly. Disassembled for priming, polished all edges. Disassembled some minor parts from tailcone for edge polishing and priming. (Still waiting on KPFU0506 to finish bulkhead #5 drilling and then to allow disassembly/priming of tailcone assembly.)

No work.
Cleaned spar carry-through and tailcone parts for priming.
Primed spar carry-through and tailcone parts.
Started assembly of spar carry-through. Need to make a few more pins before tightening up all the bolts.

Torqued all spar carry-through bolts. Riveted forward and aft spar angles. Received KPFU0506 from Rans, and fitted onto bulkhead #5.
Finished rudder pedal assembly, except dummy brake cylinders and cotter pins.
No work.
Finished drilling of bulkhead #5 and KPFU0506. Drilled trim torque tube bushings to 1/2", and polished ends of torque tube. Discovered that there were two KPFU0536 L (one mismarked as KPFU0536-R) - Rans is sending replacement. Disassembled tailcone for prep and priming.

Fabricated dummy brake cylinders for right side. Milled slot in tube stock to 3/16" to allow clearance for washers. Used AN3-7 bolts on top end to allow clearance for cotter pin without compressing tube. Continued prepping tailcone parts.

Began fabrication of new priming/paint booth to accommodate large skins and parts. Using PVC pipe and plastic sheeting.
Finished paint booth fabrication. Building new filter holder to stack several fiberglass filters before paper filter protecting the fan.

Still working on paint booth and fan/filter.

Continued prepping tailcone parts.
Primed tailcone skins and majority of tailcone parts.
Reassembling tailcone sides.
