Monthly Construction Log - September 2009

Date
Riveted access panel rings and nutplates on lower aft skin. Clecoed skin to wing frame.

Riveted bottom aft skin except tank cover, then flipped wing. Put connectors on Princeton fuel probe electronics box.
Unpacked seats/canopy/FF create from Rans and started inventory. Fit up fuel uel mounting brackets. Mounted fuel probe electronics boxes to access panels. Cut pitot mast hole in leading edge skin. Started deburring leading edge skin.
Riveted fuel line brackets and installed fuel line. Finished prepping leading edge skin for priming.
No work.
Riveted top skin stiffeners that were shortened back onto top skin.
Dimpled pitot mast mounting holes. Primed leading edge skin and overlap area on lower skin.
Riveted torque angle to tank skin and clecoed into place on wing. Used a single strip of thin cork under torque angle. Clecoed on leading edge skin to bottom side. Riveted access panel rings and nutplates to leading edge skin. Started riveting tank skin and bottom side of leading edge skin. Need to figure out if wing and flap fillets use the inboard rib rivet holes or not before riveting inboard rib.

Riveted inboard rib and flipped wing on bench.
No work.
No work.
No work.
Installed pitot mast mounting plate. Mast will need ~0.24" spacer on rear for alignment in level flight. Riveted fuel scupper ring to top skin and started installing skin to wing frame. Put single strip of thin cork on tank where skin stiffeners might rub.

Pulled leading edge skin over and clecoed into place. Clecoed wing tip skins and tip rib into place.

No work.
Started riveting top skin.
Continued top skin riveting. Used AAPQ-42 (instead of AAPQ-43) on the step plate except at the rear spar and the two aft rivets on ribs #1 and #2.
No work.
No work.
Worked on remaining top skin riveting. Will leave the top side of the leading edge skin unriveted until the landing lights are sorted out for certain. Have been investigating a single LED emitter with 430lm output that would allow each landing light to be built with only 2 LEDs. Ordered some LEDs and optics to check suitablility. Started building shelves to hold wings.
No work.
No work.
Started inventory of seats/canopy/firewall forward kits.
No work.
No work.
Finished shelves for wings.
Finished inventory of seats and canopy kits.
No work.
Did some initial testing on new LED with 20mm optics. The beam pattern had 4 distinct lobes and a shadow in the center. Will try to get the larger 26.5mm optics and see how those work out.
Moved right wing to shelf. Got left wing frame with lower skin drilled/clecoed back onto the workbench.
